Hi There,
Welcome back to Kat & Tshepi blog. We hope that you had a good week. We had a unique and a strange week, not sure why we say unique and strange because this is somehow a norm for us, in most cases (like always) we find ourselves parked parallel to the world and at odds with the world around us, this we find unique and strange. This week was painted with a full rainbow of emotions, we were faced with a few challenges on our fitness journey just when we thought we were ready to get the journey back on track. The whole family was sick from flu (winter wins again 😦 ), therefore most of our training could not happen, our nutrition also changed as we turn to eat differently when we are sick, and emotionally(wheew),this was tough for us as we are highly sensitive and emotional people.
We however, decided to make this week another rest week to allow our bodies to heal and recover and also to resuscitate our metabolism and hopefully get out of the plateau that we found ourselves in. We did our best to stick to our meal plans as much as possible but without restrictions, we continued to track our calories even though we ate differently and were not strict on our nutrition, we found the tracking of calories helpful in not going overboard with consumption. We managed to squeeze in only three training session, we are grateful for these session as they are better than nothing. In this week, we were reminded of the beginning of our fitness journey about three years back, we did a picture collage of when we started versus where we are currently (see picture below). It was really humbling and yet exciting to see the progress we have made so far, the picture is really a description of some of the qualities and capabilities we possess as human beings but which we take for granted, such as perseverance. Which brings us to this week’s topic “Perseverance”.

1.Perseverance
One of the human beings undermined capability is perseverance. It is so undermined because it is clothed in rags instead of glamour, but the core of its character is glamour, so indifferent from the outer superficial presentation. It is only through reflection that the beauty of perseverance shows its face, a brief contemplation of one’s journey in life is enough to reveal the many impossible and tumultuous hills and mountains that one had to mount and overcome. It is through the rigor of perseverance that one finds themselves in their current state, regardless of the desirable or not so desirable of their current state, it is always marked with some form of remarkable triumphs over one or more impossible problem in life. Even if things might not be looking appealing at the moment and life not being palatable, there are many and many things that one has overcome to be where they are, and a collection of these conquered impossible feats is always far greater in magnitude than the current challenges that one is facing. This is the unrealized glamour and quality of perseverance; it shies away from being the star of the show but it is always there to rescue the show in times of trouble.
This relates very well to the current state of our 6 months’ weight loss and fitness journey. Things are not looking so grand for us right now, Kat has missed his weight loss target for the past two months, Tshepi missed her target last month, we have hit a serious weight loss plateau and nothings seems to be working, wheew. With this seemingly troublesome state, a brief reflection of where we started and where we are currently renders our immediate challenges trivial and instead exposes our undermined perseverance, that is the persistent and consistent efforts we have invested on our fitness journey for the past three years. We look at our progress picture and wonder how did we achieve such impossible progress? It is the undermined and hidden star of the show, PERSEVARANCE.
That’s it for this week, it is time to recognize our ability to preserve through some of the harsh times in our lives and to remember that through this quality we can conquer anything situation. In the coming week, we are eagerly looking forward to resuming our nutrition and training plans. We have started seeing changes in our metabolism through variations in the weigh measurements, we believe the past two week’s nonrestrictive food consumption have reawakened and reassured our metabolism that there is no danger and that it can operate as normal. We also recognized our changed eating habits and mentality as a results of the beginning of winter season, and are hoping to address these changes through the forming of new eating and mindset habits. We are now ready for the last two months of our journey. Until next week, stay blessed.
