Hi There,
Welcome back to K&T blog, how was your week?
We now live in a world where it is becoming a norm to track our own fitness and health through various technological gadgets and apps, there are fitness watches, continuous glucose monitors, pedometers, calorie counters, Inbody and BMI scales, fitness bands and rings. There seems to be a need for external affirmation of whether we are doing good or bad health-wise, it appears that our own intuition and self-knowledge is no longer sufficient. Whether this is good for us or not we really don’t know, but we think the answer depends on the intended use and expectations. Gadgets are intended to be tools that help us reach certain outcomes, they are ally’s but if perceived and used incorrectly they easily become discouraging foes or sources of anxiety and overwhelm.
Our weight loss journey has revealed in so many ways that simplicity is better for weight loss, fitness and health. The basics still suffice to get fit and healthy , that is eating natural foods, exercising regularly, and sleeping adequately , this formula still works. To lose weight, one needs to eat less than they are currently, and the easiest way to do so is to eat whole foods and avoid ultra processed foods, this is because whole foods are generally low in calories, high in fibre and nutrient dense, which is the opposite of ultra processed foods. When these basics are covered, it becomes easy to indulge in the available tracking and monitoring technologies for specific and relevant improvement purposes.
We’ve had a fair share of tracking on our journey and we do recommend some level of tracking for weight loss progress such as food logging, calorie counting, step counting and weekly scale measurements . We highly recommend weekly weight tracking, this is what we have been doing consistently on our journey(see pics below) and have reaped so much benefits in return. The scale is the only tool that has been essential for us, the metrics from the scale has helped us see where we come from, to be aware of our eating habits , to be aware of seasonal weight change trends , to determine whether our meal plan and training regiment is working or not, and to project where we desire to go. How about you, are you tracking any part of your fitness and health journey?

That’s it for this week, tracking of any kind is good for making fitness and health improvements and for reaching a goal, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.”-Peter Drucker. If chosen for a specific purpose and not due to popularity and trends, fitness tracking can accelerate your fitness efforts, the metrics offers more information to make better effective decisions. But the foundations built on simplicity are critical, intuition and self knowledge remains key to tracking our progress, the gadgets are tools to support, enhance and improve they are secondary to what is essential, what we already have naturally.
Until next week, stay blessed.
