Hi There,
Welcome back to K&T blog, Happy New Year to you π .
It’s that time of the year when we make new year’s resolutions, when we set-up goals to address our shortcomings and attempt to improve our lives. It is always a good thing to aim for changes and improvements in our lives, even though some of our resolutions do not last a month, but there is something about the mind that keeps that resolution alive and tries to find a way for its manifestation, sometimes it happens later than we initially planned. If you often fail on your resolutions try to stick it out for 21 days this time around, remembering that it takes 21 days to form a habit and 90 days to create a lifestyle, you might just make it this year.
Setting your weight loss goal is a first step to succeed at losing weight, a goal creates a vision of your desired state, it set a destination for your journey and starts to pave a way for you. Without a goal you will not be sure whether you are moving in the right direction or not, you will just be busy moving , “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there- Lewis Carrol”. But for a goal to stand a chance of manifestation it must be clear, realistic and have driving power.
1.CLEAR – A goal must be clear, simple and specific, it must not be vague and ambiguous. A clear goal is “This year I will lose 5kg by 31 December 2025” instead of “This year I will lose weight”. A clear goal is something you can measure and track until it is completed, it is something that you can show the difference between the beginning and the end, something that you can show the planned and the actual.
2.REALISTIC – As humans, we like to overestimate our abilities, this can become a burden and an obstacle to reaching our goals. Losing weight consistently is honestly hard but setting a more simple and doable goal is a recipe for success, you can always review your goals if you achieve your set weight sooner than you thought. Being realistic is setting yourselves up for success by ensuring that the scales tip in your favour.
3.DRIVING POWER – Motivation is fickle and burns out quickly, but purpose keeps you going and propel you to your destination. Motivation is good to kick start the journey (like now at the beginning of the year) but what will keep you going throughout the year is your values and purpose, it is the real reason you want to achieve the goal e.g being healthy for your family, living a good and healthy lifestyle, Being energetic throughout each day, managing chronic illnesses, living to your full potential. What is your real reason for wanting to lose weight?
Another important factor in setting up a weight loss goal is having a reference point to guide you in choosing the weight to lose, this is because it can be hard to imagine how you would look at a particular weight or to know whether it will be a healthy weight for you. A tool that can be helpful for this purpose is determining your BMI (Body Mass Index), the intention of BMI is to give you a good idea of your ideal and healthy weight. Determining your BMI can be acheived by dividing your weight in kilograms (kg) by your height in meters squared (BMI = kg/m2), then checking you BMI against the chart below to identify your ideal weight or the weight you can aim for to get close to your healthy weight.

This method can get confusing at times, the easiest way to determine your BMI and ideal weight is to use one of various free BMI calculators found on the net, you punch in your weight and height then voila all the details you need are presented to you :

That’s it for this week, we hope this information can be helpful in setting up your weight loss goal for this year and sets you on a path of success, this is the year that you reach your goals. On our side, we’ve set our weight loss goals for the year, our driving purpose is to become overall healthy by improving some of the markers that are associated with good health (e.g Body Fat %, Visceral Fat %, Muscle Mass %, Water %, and rate of metabolism) .We intend to report on our progress monthly on this blog and hope to journey with and accompany you on the way to reach your own weight loss goals.
