We tried a CGM for 3 Months.

Hello there,

Welcome back to K&T blog, How are you?

We hope you a had a good week, with health and fitness being high on your agenda. Life can get too busy, leading to the neglect of our health, our fundamental attribute to enjoy life. In most cases it is only when health starts to collapse that we heed the call to take care of ourselves and it is a big struggle at this time, so keep fighting to prioritize health and fitness whilst time permits and whilst the strength to do so is on your side 🙂 . On our side, we are still fighting, we are faced with what seems to be a plateau but we are starting to see some cracks at the seams, we are breaking through.

“The groundwork for all happiness is good health” – Leigh Hunt

Over the past three months we have been using a Continuous Glucose Monitor(CGM) out of curiosity and the potential to help us further on our fitness journey. This was certainly a worthy cause, as we learned so much about our eating habits and their associated blood sugar dynamics. A CGM, or Continuous Glucose Monitor, “is a medical device that continuously tracks your glucose (blood sugar) levels throughout the day and night. It’s primarily used by people with diabetes to help them manage their condition more effectively.” .We are not diabetic but we know that managing blood sugar is good for preventing a lot of health conditions.

What we have learned from our three months experiment is that controlling your carbohydrates intake is crucial for blood sugar management, and the refined carbs (e.g flour based products) are a definite No No. There were no foods that spiked our blood sugar like foods that contained flour, as well as drinks that contained sugar. Theoretically we knew these foods and drinks are not good for us, they lead to weight gain and serious health conditions in the long run. With our experiment, we saw them practically in action and we did not like what we saw.

A key benefit from the experiment is that we eliminated bread from our diet, hooray 🙂 . Back in April we decided to eliminate bread from our diet, this was after realizing its contribution to our weight gain and the fact that it is a staple for the majority of people, we honestly believe that bread (and anything flour) is dangerous. The use of a CGM was key in giving us the proof and once we saw it, the wheels of bread elimination were in motion and now we are so happy that we overcame the hold of the bread.

That’s it for this week, we are totally impressed by the CGM technology, we believe this will be a live saver for mainly people with diabetes, we hope in the near future the costs of the units will go down and be affordable to many. For people without Diabetes, these can help with knowing the type of foods that spike your blood sugar level and provide you with incentives for eliminating them in your life. For those on a weight loss journey, we always recommend simplicity, the best thing to do for your journey is to avoid flour based products and sugary drinks and you will win 🙂 .

Until next week, stay blessed.
