2026 Fitness Goals (give willpower a break)

Hello there 👋, welcome back to the blog! It is great to have you with us as we step into 2026.

It’s that time to reflect on your fitness goals; a good opportunity to set the direction, and to set the wheels in motion towards your improved health and fitness. Unfortunately, this is what we do every year: we start motivated and strong but finish poorly; sometimes so poorly that we barely finish a month. Why is it so difficult to stick to fitness goals? Obviously, the perceived rewards are great, but we always fall short regardless. After 5 years of being on a fitness and weight loss journey, we can vouch that the answer to achieving goals is CONSISTENCY; without it, you are guaranteed to fail.

“It’s not what you do once in a while, it’s what you do day in and day out that makes the difference.” – Jenny Craig

Setting a goal is great, it gives you a sense of purpose and a little bit of motivation, but it is clearly not the only necessary thing to make it a reality. In attempting to achieve a set goal we rely on willpower instead of a system of consistency, a system that will enable you to edge closer to your goal each day, one small step at a time. In our experience throughout our five-year journey, willpower proved to be overrated, it has failed us so many times to even count. We set a goal, we envision the rewards which are really powerful, we feel strong enough that we can do it and off we go into the unpredictable year, then the reality of life happens and before we know it, it is a new year and we are setting new goals again😞.

The problem isn’t the goal; it’s the reliance on willpower over systems. But setting a goal and establishing a system of consistency yields better results. A system of consistency encompass the altering of your environment to enable you to complete all the tasks that you have set for yourself, and completing your tasks daily is what leads you to achieve your goal. Anything that you do daily to help you contribute to your goal is part of your system of consistency:

  • Removing all the processed snacks from the house.
  • Creating a visible and easily accessible space in your home for exercising.
  • Occasionally listening to health and fitness podcast.
  • Preparing your workout clothes the night before.
  • Preparing your meals in advance.
  • Taking weight measurement every morning.
  • Reducing mall visits to avoid fast foods restaurants.
  • Talking about your fitness goals with your accountability partner.
  • Drinking a glass of water first thing when you wake up.
  • Walking extra 15 minutes daily.

A system of consistency is built from a series of environmental adjustments that reduce the friction between you and your daily tasks. What are the things that add friction in your life?

Our weight loss tip for the week

Your environment will always win against your willpower. Instead of trying to be “stronger” this year, focus on making your goals effortless. Design your environment to make consistency a path of least resistance.

That’s it for this week. Goals are only achieved through consistency; it is therefore worthwhile to put effort into the things that will help you to be consistent in addition to setting your goal and your willpower. For us, one of the things we will do this year is to vacuum seal and freeze our vegetables so that it will be easier and effortless to eat them consistently.

Happy 2026 to you, and we wish you all the best on your weight loss and fitness journey. Until next time, stay blessed.
