Hi There, welcome back to K&T blog.
How did your week go? We hope it went according to plan and you managed to hit your weight loss target for the week. On our side, the week went well, still cold and busy but we are grateful for all we were able to accomplish, especially the improvement on our weight loss efforts in comparison to last week. Last week we wrote about sucking less at losing weight, it was interesting to see the reactions on the post, as well as the new viewership. It shows that as humans we are not perfect but on a journey to perfect ourselves by improving on our weaknesses (you know those areas we suck at 🙂 ), and losing weight is also one of the areas where success can be a necessity but difficult to achieve and maintain. If you are struggling with losing weight, remember to be kind to yourself and be assured that only through CONSISTENCY can you claim the trophy. Becky Sauerbrunn said it well when she stated ” The past doesn’t matter. Take today”, so don’t overwhelm yourself with yesterday’s failures but embrace the beauty of the opportunity that is “Today”.
To lose weight or not? that is the question this week. Commencing the journey of losing weight can be quite challenging , it starts of with a good trigger to get one’s health back in order or in other instances to look pleasing. But as soon as one follows through on the good trigger, a plethora of opposing ideas and thoughts come rushing into one’s mind creating a haze that diminish clarity of mind. Instantly comes thoughts of doubt, discouragement, arrogance and egotism. Thoughts of doubt and discouragement because of self limiting beliefs, and thoughts of arrogance and egotism because of overconfidence and inflated beliefs.
No matter the trigger for weight loss, it can be easy to say “this will be too hard”, “I cannot do it”, “it is expensive to live healthy”, it can be easy to find a reason not to do it. On the other hand , it can be easy to say “I don’t need to lose weight” , “I am fine the way I am”, “I am not doing too badly health-wise”. A common detractor for weight loss that we have come across is body image, how would I look when I have lost some weight? would I look weird? Would I look sick? or would I look as good as I thought. Body image subtly trumps all other reasons, like it or not.
Our opinion is that after getting a trigger, whether one feels that they should lose weight or not, the centrality of their decision is “Change”, whether one should make changes to their comfort zone. Weight loss calls for change, a change in what we eat, in how we eat, in what we do and in how we think, and to simply get up an change is not in our nature, we inherently prefer our comfort zone. We prefer the safety of our known eating habits, lifestyle, body look and our thinking patterns regardless of their outcomes, good or bad.
So to lose weight or not? if you are on the fence, you can try the BMI calculator, we previously wrote about it here (What is my BMI -Body Mass Index ), it gives you a good idea of your health category based on your weight and height, e.g whether you are in a healthy weight range or underweight or overweight or obese. BMI is not to be taken as cast in stone but as a good guide of where you should attempt to go, it can help clarify the decision of whether to lose weight or not.
That’s it for this week, for us our trigger came in roughly 4 years ago, we were unhappy with how we looked and felt, as well as unexpected medical diagnosis of cholesterol and high blood pressure, we needed to get out of our comfort zone. And we are happy that we took the plunge as our health and state of mind is in a far better state than it was 4 years ago. And hey, at that time we thought that things were not that bad but now we see that they really were 🙂 . The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure that you seek – Joseph Campbell.

Until next week, Stay Blessed.
