The Garden: October update

Hi There,

Welcome back to K&T blog, how are you?

It is a common say in motivation circles that “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”, which refers to a starting point of a difficult endeavor. A fitness and weight loss journey is like such an endeavor, it is tough, lonely, surprising and unpredictable, but it always has a start. It can start from a diagnosis of a chronic illness, or self image discontent, or a desire for longevity, or a need for better physical performance, or boredom , or fear. But whichever way it starts, it is always for a good and noble cause because the end result is improved health , and therefore improved quality of life. “Health is Wealth” , life is hard to enjoy without health. How did your journey start?

It is end of October, it is time for us to give an update on the garden we started in July (we have been giving monthly updates since then – The Garden – July update, The Garden: August update, The Garden: September update). This month , we continued harvesting spinach for daily consumption, we have spinach for every lunch and as part of our post-workout shake. This month we also started another garden by making use of another unused patch of land of about 75sqm. This means that our garden has grown in size and the time to tend to it has also increased, it now takes a minimum of 30 mins per day to tend to. With an increased demand for time (a very important and scarce asset) we realise that we need to focus on efficiency and automation to cope and manage, we need to consider things such as a sprinkler system, branching the water supply, breaking down timeslots throughout the day, and allocating different tasks to all family members at a time.

The garden we started in July is coming along well, the crops are thriving but we seem to have challenges with tomatoes, onions and bell peppers, they refuse to dance to our tune, but with every challenge we are learning about the crops.

That’s it for this month’s garden update, we keep working hard on the garden with the hope and end goal of supplying most of our fresh produce needs, each day that we exert our efforts is an opportunity to make this a reality. A big by-product of this dream is the daily engagement with nature, we get to connect with nature as individuals, as partners and as a family, this soothes the soul and feels priceless 🙂 .

Until next week, Stay blessed.
